Philips Sonicare R732 HealthyWhite Power Toothbrush Review

I’ve used Sonicare toothbrushes in the past – as well as Oral B and a few other brands – but decided I’d opt for the Philips Sonicare R732 HealthyWhite Power Toothbrush a few months ago as a test. It has the “Healthy White” whitening feature which I expected to be no more than a gimmick, but still, I was up for trying something new!

And on the whole, I’m happy with my decision. The general build quality is just fantastic, it feels really nice and solid. I’d certainly expect that, given the price, but on that note, I don’t think this is all that “expensive”. After all, you could easily drop over $100 on a filling… or two… wouldn’t you rather prevent that happening in the first place?

The actual quality of brushing is great. I almost get that “dentist clean feeling” after every use, so it’s certainly working. It also has the “whitening” feature which consists of an extra 30 seconds where you focus and move the brush over your front visible teeth. While my front teeth are lovely and white, I can’t honestly attribute that solely to this feature. Still, it does “feel” like it’s doing good.

It has an excellent battery life, lasting for a good two weeks after a charge. I’ve taken it away on holiday with me on a couple of occasions and I haven’t even bothered to take the charger with me. It comes with an extra brush head of a different size which certainly comes in handy, but my favorite thing has go to be simply how easy it is to clean! So many other electric brushes I’ve owned had various gaps where gunk would build up, but that’s not an issue at all with the R732.

The R732 also comes with a timer – much like most modern brushes – that lets you know when to change quadrant in your mouth. This just helps you ensure you get your full two minutes each brushing session, and cover all your teeth. Unfortunately, the brush will actual stop operating after 2 minutes which I find hinders my teeth health! If I want to go longer than 2 minutes then I will! It’s easy enough to reactivate again, but it’s just a little annoyance to bear in mind.

Other than that, the only thing I would say as a potential downside is that the brush does take a little getting used to. The vibrations are quite intensive I thought when I first started using it, but I got used to them in no time. Now it’s weird without the intense vibrations!

Here’s a summary of the R732:

Pros:

  • Very good level of brushing
  • Easy to clean
  • Very good battery life
  • Excellent build quality
  • Extra brush head
  • Has a timer for the different quadrants

Cons:

  • Auto shut off
  • Vibrations can be quite intense at first

Overall, the R732 is a great little brush and one I’ll be sad to replace. I still think the “whitening” feature is a bit of a gimmick, but then my teeth are looking better than ever, so perhaps it’s not! It’s a great investment and one you’ll wish you had discovered a long time ago.
